Being a project manager is one of the most difficult, but often least rewarding jobs you will find. Far too often receiving the just due credit for completing the required task or project on time with little to no unforeseen problems while remaining well within the specified budget, is not a part of the project manager job description. There rarely are any big headlines about a job well done, even in the company’s own newsletter.
However, fail to meet the required objectives, miss the specified deadline, or go well over budget, and you will find yourself receiving plenty of attention. Unwanted attention, but attention nonetheless.
Even with little to no fanfare in their future for a job well done, many people still choose to seek out this career path anyways. They enjoy the challenge of having so many goals that need to be met, the constantly changing project parameters, and managing their team of workers and guiding them across the finish line. It surely is not a career for the week-minded or thin skinned though.
